8 Year Old Japanese Guitar Prodigy

This kid tears it up on a guitar that's bigger than he is!

No Cheerios

A 6-year-old and a 4-year-old are upstairs in their bedroom. "You know what?" says the 6-year-old. "I think it's about time we start cussing." The 4-year-old nods his head in approval. The 6-year-old continues. "When we go downstairs for breakfast I'm going to say hell and you say ass."

"OK!" The 4 year old agrees with enthusiasm.

Their mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 6-year-old what he wants for breakfast. "Aw hell, Mom, I guess I'll have some Cheerios."

WHACK! He flies out of his chair, tumbles across the kitchen floor, gets up, and runs upstairs crying his eyes out, with his mother in hot pursuit, slapping his rear every step. The mom locks him in his room and shouts "You can just stay there till I let you out!"

She then comes back downstairs, looks at the 4-year-old, and asks with a stern voice, "And what do YOU want for breakfast young man?

"I don't know," he blubbers, "But you can bet your ass it won't be Cheerios!"

MP3 player lights rescuers' way to missing skiers... take that RIAA

From the AP....

SAVOGNIN, Switzerland – Swiss rescue officials say they have found two missing skiers after spotting the light from their MP3 music player.

The Swiss air rescue association Rega says it received a distress call from the French tourists late Friday but the skiers' phone battery went dead before they could be reached.

Rega spokesman Gery Baumann says the two men were eventually found after midnight in steep, wooded terrain by a helicopter crew that spotted the light from their digital music player.

Baumann said Saturday that the two 22-year-olds suffered only mild hypothermia despite enduring temperatures as low as 5 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 15 degrees Celsius).

The incident happened near the town of Savognin in southeastern Switzerland.

This puppy is foxy!

This story, reported by Ananova and Neatorama, invloves Zhang, of Tunkou, China, who bought what he thought was an all-white Pomeranian dog for £60 a year ago on a business trip.

But he found the dog hard to tame, it would often bite him and had several unusual traits, he told the Wuhan Evening Post.

"It can't bark but instead makes little 'em em' noises, and its tail has been growing longer and longer," he said.

"The most annoying thing is that starting this summer, the dog became very smelly. Even when we gave it a daily shampoo bath, the smell was still strong."

Zhang took his 'dog' to a local zoo for answers, and it turned out the dog is actually an Arctic fox, a protected rare species.

He has now donated the animal to the zoo.

Speed Camera "Pimping" game

High school students in Montgomery County, Maryland are using speed cameras to get back at their perceived enemies, and even teachers. The students duplicate the victim's license plate on glossy paper using a laser printer, tape it over their own plate, then speed past a newly installed speed camera. The victim gets a $40 ticket in the mail days later, without any humans ever having been involved in the ticketing process.

The kids are calling it the Speed Camera "Pimping" Game.

Laughing baby's laughing dad.

Most of you have probably seen the hilarious laughing baby (video 1) but I bet you've always wondered who was behind the camera making the noises. Well we've found exclusive vintage footage of the father of the laughing baby (video 2).

Signs of the Times

Here's a compilation of logo parodies available across the web. Sadly they are both funny and true.

Will Mac OS X 10.6 have a 3D desktop interface?

Patents filed by Apple indicate they have been working on a 3D desktop interface. This wouldn't be the first 3D interface but if it comes from Apple I'll bet it's gonna be sweet.

Here's looking at Chu!

Barack Obama has nominated Steven Chu, a world renowned Nobel laureate physicist, as a member of his cabinet, the head of the Department of Energy. In the past there have been many career politicians, lawyers and engineers who have held the post, but this is the first time that a physicist has been named to the position. Awesome, finally someone who understands science!!!! I wonder if his position also covers anti-energy.

New Terminator Salvation Trailer

I understand it may be a niche audience but the TV Terminator series is really well done (despite the product placement). And the new Terminator movie trailer looks a-mazing. They've covered it fully over at First Showing. I think all this is a little scary considering some of the autonomous robots that exist now. Have a look at the video below of the autonomous robotic dog by Boston Dynamics, designed for carrying loads over rough terrain. They try to knock it over by kicking it, but nope. They try to trip it up by guiding it over some ice, but nope. It just rights itself and keeps going. If it had some face recognition software, video cam, and a gun, then boom you got a terminator.

OS X 10.5 Leopard on the eeePC

I'm not a windows fan. But I prefer something a little more mainstream as a user OS than linux. So for your consideration, Mac OSX on the eeePC. This might be the cheapest way to get OS X on a laptop (in a dedicated sense anyway, because I know you can run OS X off a USB drive on any x86 but that takes up a usb port).

Many have already talked about this but I'm going to reference a couple. First there is a real nice overview and tutorial over at Uneasy Silence. Second there is a reference wiki on this very topic at eeepc-osx

Enjoy.
